Ferrous 85” Co. has started commercial production of what it says is the largest slitting line in North America. Located at SDI Sinton’s EAF steel mill in Sinton, Texas, the machine offers toll slitting of hot-rolled and hot-rolled pickled-and-oiled material.
The slitter can process incoming master coils in widths from 36 to 87 in. and up to 105,000 lbs. Slit width capacity of the line ranges from 7 to 85 in. in gauges from 0.074 to 0.750 in. The slitter can pull up to 12 mults in material up to 0.1875 in. and up to three mults in 0.750 in. For material over 0.500 in., the machine produces slit coils with 28-in. ID; material from 0.074 to 0.500 in. thick can be produced on either 24- or 28-in. ID.
